That's the conversation my wife had to have with my two youngest children this morning. She had to have the conversation because they were worried because Daddy doesn't feel well and because the fascination with death of a 12 year-old boy who happens to live in the same house with the rest of us.
The story began back in October when Joseph, my oldest son, toured downtown Walhalla with his 7th grade class. Part of tour included one of the oldest cemeteries in Oconee County, SC...dating back several hundred years. While walking through the cemetery, Joseph saw a headstone of someone named Joseph that died a couple hundred years ago on August 7th...which happens to be Joseph's birthday. So began Joseph's fascination with death.
Despite our pleading with Joseph to stop his talking of death all the time, it apparently continues when we are not in earshot.
So this morning, with a head cold, a sore throat and no ability to talk above a whisper, my two youngest were advised that their Daddy didn't feel well and that he was sick. To which they posed the question to Mommy, "Is Daddy going to die?"

such a big question for the little boys.....I hope you are feeling better ad.......
The fascination with death is beginning to cause some problems. These are some heavy issues and feelings that are not as easily explained to 3 and 4 year-old boys.
That's really too bad. They shouldn't have to worry about such things.
Oh my.
Wow. I wouldn't know where to begin explaining that! (I guess I'm lucky that I am now explaining things like the concept of "later". For example, during bathtime, Daddy :"Tommy do you want to wash your hair now, or later?" Tommy : "Later". Daddy : "Okay." Tommy : "What is 'later?'"
Er ...
