I read with interest this morning the amount of stabs those speaking at Coretta Scott King's funeral took at the president. While I'm not a fan of President Bush, using a funeral, no matter whose funeral it is, to further your stance or feelings concerning national issues is just plain wrong.
Funerals should be used to look back at a person's life, to remember that person and to reflect on their life. And while Coretta Scott King and her late husband were the civil rights movement in a lot of people's eyes, it doesn't make right to attack someone at a funeral.
When my grandpa died last spring, the preacher used the funeral to talk about his wife, her battle with cancer and the fact that the grace of God kept her alive. While I think it's great his wife beat cancer, using my grandpa's funeral to preach that message was completely ridiculous.
And that's the same type thing that happened yesterday in Atlanta.
