I had promised I would talk some about my adventures in Alaska. Here's a bit about the trip...
We arrived later than scheduled to Alaska due to a problem with a sick passenger in Atlanta. After getting to the runway for take-off, the plane ended up going back to the hanger so the passenger could be let off the plane. Seeing this lady exit the plane, I was wondering if her illness was physical or mental. After all, she was wearing pajamas when taken off the plane.
Anyway, after spending the night in Anchorage, we drove north two and a half hours to Talkeetna, where the conference was being held. The drive was nothing more than what you would expect to see when driving through Northern Minnesota or any rural area in the country. I thought to myself, "This is Alaska?, what a disappointment!" Oh, how things change!
Talkeetna is the town that anyone who wants to clime a mountain in the Alaska range probable begins the journey. The town has several Air Taxis that take climers to the base camp of Mt. McKinley. We ended up taking an Air Taxi to tour the national park and got some great photos. It was one of those things that is a bit expensive but you have to do it if you're going to get the best experience possible.
The rest of the time in Talkeetna was mostly conferences and touring the town. There was the visit to local non-profit radio station. I'll talk more about that another time.
