Something about Iowa...

I saw a business the other day whose sign read..."By Appointment Only...Walk Ins Welcome" and "Frozen Hot Chocolate."

As far as the first one goes I figure you could walk in, make an appointment for sometime in the next minute or two and maybe that will work. As far as frozen hot chocolate, isn't that a chocolate fudge bar or a popsicle?

Army Crawl

Parker is becoming more mobile everyday. Today he started his Army Crawling stage. He was able to get from the couch in the living room to the kitchen in a matter of moments. With Kallsen now running full speed everyday and Parker being able to get about, we could be in for some trouble.

Disc Golf

Joseph and I went disc golfing tonight. Kallsen came along (I pulled him in a wagon) for the round. While we played the other day as a family, we never did play every hole due to a large group on the course that was slow moving. So tonight was the 'first' real round of disc golf with Joseph.

Joseph has a natural knack for throwing a disc. I think he'll become a much better player than I ever was by the time he reaches high school. That's if he decides he likes to play.

Tonight I was able to pull some shots out of my bag that I figured I had lost over the years of not playing. I was able to finish even for the night with two birdies and two bogies. The final birdie came on the last hole with a 35 foot putt. I figure if I was able to play that well after years of not playing some more regular players could probable come here and shoot seven or eight under par.

One thing I like about moving to Estherville is being able to play disc golf again on a regular basis. I like it even more than I'm able to play with Joseph and that Kallsen can come along as well.

AJ

PS-My birdie on the fifth hole was close to being a hole in one. The disc sailed past the basket chain high and about half a foot to the right. It landed 15 feet away from the hole. So close to ringing the chains.

Stringing Words Together

Kallsen has started stringing words together. Some of the things he has been saying...

"Daddy go boo boo"
"Bye bye Parker go night night"
"Parker, I love you"
"Bye bye Daddy"
"Joseph, I want to play"
"I want to ride trike"
"Daddy that's mine"
"No Daddy no"
and...
"My Daddy is the super coolest Daddy in the entire world"

Look at Parker!

Parker sat up all by himself today! It was a bit of a struggle but he finally was able to do it! My boy is growing up!

A final goodbye

My grandpa and grandma Wright were cremated and while my grandma died in 2001 and my grandpa died in 2005 they were never laid to rest. Yesterday much of the family gathered at my Dad's hometown of Aitkin, Minnesota to say a final goodbye and lay my grandparents to rest.

My grandparents were turkey farmers for years. My grandpa sold his farm and hatchery business in 1972 and ended up selling insurance for New York Life and did that through the late 1980s. Other than insurance my grandpa also sold bows and tuned bows for hunters across the Midwest and was a heck of an archer himself.

This final picture is of my Dad in reflection on Sunday.

Defeat de-feet...

Genes can be good things and bad things. I am the recipient of good genes and bad genes. The bad genes come from my Mom's side of the family in the way of elephant-type skin on the heels of my feet. Both my sisters have this same problem. I recently learned that my twin sister Kara has her husband power sand her heels down every so often and that this does a world of good.

Well this weekend, while visiting with my parents, my wife decides to borrow my Dad's power sander to give sanding my heels a try...

This next picture is a before and after. What do you think?

Just Another Saturday Morning in the Wright Household

Kallsen locked himself in the bathroom. Then he locked himself in our bedroom. Then he knocked Parker over. Then he knocked Parker over again. Then he bit Parker on the hand. Just another Saturday morning.

Good Form

You may notice that Joseph is a lefty. He has good form and kept the disc in play on every hole. Tonight was his first time playing and his first time throwing a golf disc. He may be a natural.

A Great Picture of Parker

First Round

We (the family) played our first round of disc golf tonight. It's a nice nine hole course. You'll need to bring your finesse game with you and have the ability to throw long (at least on two holes.)

Kallsen got tired so I had to carry him and we were told by another player on the course that the eight total players on the course at one time was a record number. He told us the course had been in the ground two years and their first tournament is schedule for a Sunday afternoon in August.

The picture is of the finishing hole from the tee.

Cool in the Pool on a Hot Summer Day

Sara Beth bought the boys a small inflatable pool today...

Confirmed

I went hunting this afternoon after work and I found the Disc Golf Course I had heard about. Just on the outskirts of town. I plan to get the discs out sometime soon and play. I'm excited!

The picture is of hole #1. A short dogleg right, 263 feet from tee to the hole. I'm think a slightly beat up XD should do the trick.

On another note, the course looks very nice. Not a long challenging course but a nice course that will be a pleasure to play.

Illness

Found out today why Parker has been having a temp. He has an ear infection. And also found out that Kallsen has a yeast infection. Both boys have been giving a prescription and should be better in a couple of days.

In other news, we're lucky that Kallsen has no broken bones. He decided this evening that the chest of drawers in his room would work well as a ladder. The chest of drawers fell on him as he attempted to climb. A bloody nose and lots of tears, but no broken bones.

Am I that Transparent?

So this morning I was downtown to help the Estherville Chamber set up for a block party. I wasn't sure where to go and I saw some people gathering just inside the side door to the library. I went to see if that was the group I was looking for. It wasn't. But they invited me to join their group. They were the local chapter of Overeaters Anonymous...

Traveling a Long Lonesome Road...

Kallsen has discovered his trike. He would spend all day and night on the trike if we let him...

The Travels of Sound

Living in an older house has its challenges. One of those challenges is closet space. The other is how sound travels.

In our house in Georgia it didn't matter what room you were in you could raise your voice and anyone in any other room of the house would be able to hear you. In our house in Iowa, you can yell bloody murder in one room and someone in the very next room may not hear you at all.

Anyone listening...

"At least the mountains won't get in the way...

A week ago Friday, while driving across Iowa, Joseph said to me, "At least in Iowa the mountains won't get in the way of our view"

From the mouth of babes...

Here's your wiener...

Several weeks ago, Joseph claimed he didn't really think there was a real one, he said it was make-believe for a TV commercial. I told him that it was real and it really did exist. He didn't believe me then. He believes me now...

The U-haul behind the front of vehicle is the U-haul we rented. Behind the back end you can see the Camry, which we pulled behind the U-haul. The picture is taken from the Suburban.

His team finished 12-3

Joseph's last game was on Tuesday, May 31st. We had already packed up the computer for our move to Iowa and I was unable to blog about the game. In Joseph's final game, he was 1-2 and was hit by a pitch. The team ended up tied for first place but lost the tie breaker to another team due to head to head competition.

At the finish of the game, Joseph was a bit emotional being that it was the last time he was going to see any of his friends. Sara Beth and her Mom had the other two boys and headed back home before Joseph and I were done talking with his coach. Joseph and I ended up at the Dairy Queen for a final game/last night in Georgia celebration.

Just letting my regular readers know that more posts are coming. We are getting our internet at the house on Monday and we'll also have a telephone and cell phones on Monday as well. The cell phones were suppose to be ready today but now we're told we'll have them by Monday.

With the internet at the house again, we'll be able to add more pictures and do some longer updates.

Good Night Kallsen...bye, bye...

Twice this past week, when it was time to put Kallsen to bed, I would ask Kallsen to go to Kallsen's room. Which he did. When he got into his room, he turned, looked up at me and said, "bye, bye" and closed the door. No tucking him in, no goodnight kiss, just "bye, bye" and door closed in my face...sigh...

Disc Golf Close By

A second disc golf course is being put in the ground in Martin County, Minnesota (the county just north of emmitt county) and the KILR newsman just told me that he thinks there is a course at one of the parks in Estherville. If that is the case, then there will be three courses within a half hour drive or so from where we live. Cool.

Hard to find lots of things

An amazing thing about moving. You've opened all the boxes, looked through everything you have and you still cannot find some of the things you swear you packed. I'm still looking for the TV remote, about 10 CDs, and my hanging wood fish. I believe I saw the fish once since moving. Who knows where these things may be...hopefully they'll show up real soon.

AJ

Welcome to Iowa

The first mishap of the move to Iowa happened last night. Joseph was out riding bikes with his new friends when he decided to hit the breaks on the bike. Well the bike stopped but Joseph didn't. He put a quarter size hole in his leg on the inside of his thigh half way between his knee and groin. A visit to the ER and seven stitches later, he was back outside running around with friends.

I think he'll be okay.

Settling In

Today is my second day on the job and my first day out hitting the street in sales. I'm headed sometime this morning to Armstrong and then Ringsted to sell. I'm planning on having a productive day.

The house is getting set up and my guess is within another week or so we'll have the house the way we want it. I'll update again tomorrow.
