My son Kallsen turned one year-old yesterday. He had a great day!
We celebrated with Kallsen at the radio station at 1:00 with cupcakes and soda and when I got home from work, we took Kallsen out to eat and ordered for him off the menu and he really seemed to enjoy sitting in a booster seat and having his own plate of food. Just like the adults.
We finished of with giving him some extra time in the bathtub (which he loves) and played before bed.
It's hard to believe that he's turned one already. My, how time flies!

Our Trip to Washington
My family decided to capitalize on my eight year-olds fascination with politics and government and take the family to Washington D.C. for vacation this year.
The first thing we learned, while doing a side trip in Virginia on the way to DC was not to take a vacation that requires lots of walking when your wife is six month pregnant and you have a one year-old. We stopped in Laury, Virginia and toured the caverns. The tour required us to descend 70 steps to get into the caverns and then walk about two or three miles before climbing up 68 steps. We weren't but half way through when we realized this was going to be a vacation that was going to require us to stop and take lots of rest.
Once we got to D.C., we walked the Capitol Mall from one end to the other and back...which is about four and a half miles. My wife did really well with all the walking...in 90 degree plus heat.
If you've never been to D.C., it's worth the time...most everything is free and at last all of the buildings are air conditioned.

A friend's son dies in car accident
I just received a phone call about the death of one of my friend's son. My wife was reading an article from her hometown newspaper, The Union Daily Times, when she came across this article...
6-year-old boy dies after car rams minivan
By ANNA BROWN Staff Writer
A 6-year-old Union boy on his way home from eating pizza died Friday after his mother’s minivan was struck from behind by another vehicle. Joseph William Shick of 144 Greenway Drive was airlifted to Spar tanburg Re g i o n a l M e d i c a l Center, where he died after the 5:20 p.m. crash. Union C o u n t y Coroner William Holcombe said Joseph suffered head and chest trauma.
The wreck occurred on Highway 49 at the entrance to Fairwood II subdivision, where the Shick family lives. Joseph and his family were returning from Spartanburg, where they had eaten at Chuck E. Cheese’s.
Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Joseph’s mother, Dawn Shick, was stopped in the roadway, attempting a left turn and waiting on traffic when her 1999 Nissan Quest was hit in the rear by a 1997 Pontiac twodoor car driven by Kathy B. Patrick, 54, of 698 Bishop Road, Union.
McDougald said Joseph, who was wearing a seatbelt, was a passenger on the right of the third rear seat.
Also in the vehicle were Mrs. Shick’s three other children and her mother, Rickie Fowler of Union.
Mrs. Patrick was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center by Union County EMS. A switchboard operator said this morning that she has been discharged from the hospital.
McDougald said an investigation into the wreck is continuing and troopers are trying to determine if speed was a factor on Mrs. Patrick’s part.
Joseph was a rising first grade student at Foster Park Elementary School. He attended Mon-Aetna Baptist Church with his family.

Transferable land Development
Transferable Land Development is going to become an issue in our community of Rabun County soon. The local League of Women Voters is sponsoring a conference next week that will include a discussion of Transferable Land Development. There are a few reasons why I'm against TLD.
One reason is I don't think it is right to charge someone else, who wants to develop or bring in industry to our community, a fee that will go into someone else's pocket to not develop their land. We should not be paying someone to do nothing. If you want to preserve land, do what they do in other states and start an organization that simply buys land to preserve land. It works. The proof is Ducks Unlimited owning millions of acres of land so duck hunters have ducks to hunt. DU didn't go to the government asking to force people to do something (or not to do something), they raised money, bought the land and decided to turn it into a preserve to save the breeding habitat for ducks. And it worked.
The other reason I don't like this issue of TLD is because while the League of Women Voters is advertising this conference as a way to make yourself more knowledgeable about land use, they are taking a stand of WHAT THEY THINK SHOULD BE DONE and have misrepresented the real reason for the conference. It's not to inform people of the options, its to inform people of the way THEY WANT IT DONE.
One final note...if you're ever going to be on my talk show, don't show up with a list of questions you want me to ask. I've been doing on-air interviews for more than ten years. I know how to conduct an interview. If you can't answer questions that aren't pre scripted, maybe you should be more versed in your topic...after all you're on the show because you're suppose to be an expert in what you're talking about.

New Products
I've purchase two new products for PartyWright, LLC. I've purchased two Boom Blasters and a Pitch Burst.
Both these products are designed to be a set up and run type rentals. While I won't be able to charge the same rate as I do for the slide and/or bounce, I'll be able to set up and leave these items...which will allow us to better do multiple events and better allow us to make money without spending all of our time at events instead of spending time with family.

Another Diagnosis
For the past five or so years I've had a problem with the skin on my hands. Patches of skin will get red and scaly and just look unpleasant. My hand itch, burn and they hurt. Sometimes my hands will heal and look normal and within a day or two they will be so unsightly, I have to wear wraps on my hands as to not disgust others.
This morning I went to a new doctor in Toccoa to look at my hands. I got new medicine, a new diagnosis and a follow up visit next week. I'll wait for the follow up visit next week before saying what they think it might be.
I've been to no less than eight different doctors over the past five years and no one has been able to get a handle on it yet. Hopefully, something will come of this new doctor.
