A mouth full of pancakes...

My wife and I decided to eat last night at The huddle House in Clayton. Joseph is out of town, so it was just my wife, me and Kallsen. Kallsen just turned 11 months old and now eats some table foods.

While Kallsen normally eats his food, every now and then he is much more interested in everyone else's food than he is with his own food. So we decided will order Kallsen his own plate of food and let him sit in a booster seat at the table instead of in a high chair. Well, he was in heaven! You could tell he thought of himself as a big boy...being at the table with everyone else.

The only problem seems to be he had no interest in taking the small pieces of the pancake his mom had gotten ready for him...he would grab the uncut portion of pancake and try to stuff the entire thing in his mouth. It was quite the thing to watch.

I don't think my Dad will believe how much he can eat and how independent he is becoming. My Dad is going on vacation with us later this summer.

A Rabun Entourage

My new favorite TV show is Entourage on HBO. I was told about the show last year but for what ever reason I never gave it a chance. Surfing channels recently I came across the first episode of Entourage this season and now I'm hooked.

Being that I have a new favorite show, I ordered Entourage Season One on DVD recently. I've not watched it yet (because I have kids and the language isn't family friendly) but I plan to have an Entourage Party. I'm guessing some of the people I talk to about other HBO shows (Sopranos, Deadwood) probable will like Entourage, too. I'm not sure if I'll wait for a weekend that my wife and kids are visiting her parents or we'll just do the Entourage Party after the kids go to bed.

Entourage is about a young man in his 20's that landed a TV commercial that led to him starring in a movie that became a hit. He moves to LA and hires is best friend as his Manager, another friend as his driver and his older brother for another job. They become his Entourage...their fortune is his fame. A great show. It's suppose to show us what it is truly like to be a young actor trying to make it in Hollywood.

My radio morning show guys and I are thinking about starting a fake web site. It would be something like rabunentourage.com. We're thinking of building a web site and using pictures of our morning show and other station staff as our 'for hire' talent for "Your Very Own Rabun Entourage." We would run one fake commercial per day on the morning show. The web site would include pictures and a bio of each person available for building your own Rabun Entourage.

Anyways...if you're not currently watching the HBO hit series, check it out...if you're in Rabun County and need a Rabun Entourage, www.rabunentourage.com.

Go ahead, burn the flag...

Do people still burning flags? Apparently so…and they have a right to burn a flag. There are many politicians in Washington right now trying to make it illegal to burn the American Flag.

While I'm one that would never burn an American flag, other than to properly dispose of an old flag, I’m not about to support any law that would make it illegal if you had 'anti American' thoughts.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the great thing about living in America and being an American is our right to speak our thoughts and our feelings…whether or not others agree, without fear of prosecution. We have the right to practice any religion we choose without fear of government intervention; we have the right to support different political views and different political parties. And we have the right to burn an American flag.

Ironically, the American Legion and Boy Scouts burn thousands of flags every year in respectful retirement ceremonies. The only difference between their actions, and the actions of a protestor are the thoughts in the minds of the two.

New Shoes

Kallsen got his first real pair of shoes yesterday. A learning experience for sure. Apparently the importance of good shoes for babies is so the babies don't end up breaking a leg or an ankle.

Watching Kallsen go from sitting to standing, he bends his ankle underneath himself and pushes up. Proper baby shoes forces the babies to use the sole of their feet to push up and not the ankle. Interesting.

An Ugly Divorce

I'm not sure who filed first, M&Ms or Subway, but the two are no longer together. It was a long, meaningful and prosperous relationship. A relationship we should have all been striving for. A relationship that should have been together forever.

M&M cookies are no longer available at Subways across the world. They are no longer available because Subway and M&Ms (or whomever owns the company) couldn't come to an agreement on terms.

When I go to Subway, one of the things I enjoy is finishing my Sub and enjoying an M&M cookie. I no longer can enjoy the M&M cookie at Subway.

Divorce is an ugly thing...the kids end up getting hurt the worst. I'm one of those kids. I hope I can survive this divorce.

Inflatable Spikes Again!

We just returned from out first 'official' event in North Carolina. Since we began our business in July of 2004, we've only received two requests for events in North Carolina. Because of so few requests, we delayed getting certified in the state.

I set up the castle bounce this past week in NC and was inspected for this weekend's event. We passed with no problems. And then with today's event in Franklin, I actually booked two more events in Franklin and one in Sky Valley. I also had requests for prices and information for several other events. So after not booking any more events in the past few weeks, I was able to book three events in one day.

Another interesting note...When we began in the inflatable business, the slide was what everyone wanted...But lately, it is the bounce that is getting most of the single bookings. Which is nice because I can do those solo, bad because they don't bring in as much cash.

Now, if the rain would just hold off....

More lakes? I think not!

An Ohio geography professor claims that Minnesota has only the seven most lakes in the lower 48 and not the most of any other state of the lower 48. Please!

Bill Renwick, chairman of the Geography Department at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his colleagues do not distinguish between water bodies of natural origin and those built by humans. And they count any body of water that can be seen by a satellite. Which, in case you're wondering, is any body of water about 100 feet across. So while us natural born Minnesotans have been only counting lakes that are fed from a stream or a spring; or feed to another large body of water, this professor (if that's what you can call him) is counting ponds and puddles as lakes!

I guess I'll skip my planed trip to Minnesota for fishing and water skiing to head to that great lake state....KANSAS!

I've burned through some money...

This gives a whole new meaning to burning a hole in your pocket.

On Friday night, we (PartyWright) did a pay to play event. After about three hours of business, it began to rain. Not only did our equipment get soaked, the rain got into our cash box and soaked our cash. On Tuesday night, four days later, we were getting our deposit ready and the money was still soaked. So I decided to dry the money out by putting it in the microwave. The first batch seemed to dry out okay...The second batch simply burned.

Of the $100 in one dollar bills I put into the microwave, 64 made it out okay. Seven are toast and the remaining will have to be inspected by the bank before they'll accept the money.

Needless to say, I will not live this one down.

A WORD TO THE WISE...Instead of burning a hole in your money let your money burn a hole in your pocket.

Alaska

I had promised I would talk some about my adventures in Alaska. Here's a bit about the trip...

We arrived later than scheduled to Alaska due to a problem with a sick passenger in Atlanta. After getting to the runway for take-off, the plane ended up going back to the hanger so the passenger could be let off the plane. Seeing this lady exit the plane, I was wondering if her illness was physical or mental. After all, she was wearing pajamas when taken off the plane.

Anyway, after spending the night in Anchorage, we drove north two and a half hours to Talkeetna, where the conference was being held. The drive was nothing more than what you would expect to see when driving through Northern Minnesota or any rural area in the country. I thought to myself, "This is Alaska?, what a disappointment!" Oh, how things change!

Talkeetna is the town that anyone who wants to clime a mountain in the Alaska range probable begins the journey. The town has several Air Taxis that take climers to the base camp of Mt. McKinley. We ended up taking an Air Taxi to tour the national park and got some great photos. It was one of those things that is a bit expensive but you have to do it if you're going to get the best experience possible.

The rest of the time in Talkeetna was mostly conferences and touring the town. There was the visit to local non-profit radio station. I'll talk more about that another time.

One Final Time

Today I'm going to see Star Wars with my son Joseph. In the past when a Star Wars movie came out, I would see it on opening day and see it several times during the next couple of weeks. There's just something about seeing a Star Wars movie on a big screen. I feel kind of bad that I haven't had a chance to see Revenge of the Sith more than once...twice after today.

CAFTA...it's alright with me...

For those that know me it comes as no surprise that I am not a fan of Georgia ‘W’ Bush. Living in a county where 85 percent of those that voted in the 2004 election voted for Bush…I’m a minority in my own community.

One thing I do agree with President Bush on that most in the Southern U-S probable do not is the Central America Free Trade Agreement. Recently one of my cohorts in radio did an editorial asking people to call their congressman and ask that they vote against CAFTA . Saying we were going to lose the last remaining textile jobs and lose other jobs to countries in Central America.

Well it’s time for the textile industry and those that are hanging on with hopes that textile jobs will come back to wake up and smell the dye because those jobs aren’t coming back.

American companies are going to continue to outsource to other countries as long as the production cost is less and the quality is as good if not better. And guess what? The cost is less and the quality is better. American Made doesn’t mean what it used to anymore.

If you’re a textile worker and you’re not looking for another job, getting new training or preparing in someway to support you and your family when your job gets exported, don’t blame others because you couldn’t read the writing on the wall…I guess no child left behind came to late for some.

Hope the rain stays away

We have one of our biggest events to date tonight and right now it is raining hard here in Rabun County. The rain is suppose to be scattered. Lets hope it scatters somewhere other than the Franklin High School football field.

Changing the way I do things...

I got some feedback recently on this whole blog thing...and it wasn't good. It also wasn't really all THAT bad...

I getting the feeling that people are expecting a lot more from me than just comments on life. They want political thoughts, editorials, commentaries and rants. Well, they're going to get it.

My wife read my blog for the first time yesterday. She didn't say anything bad...just that it is not what she expected it to be. Which is my politial views and editorials. I will encourage her to start her own blog. She is very stong writer and has helped me write editorials in the past. In fact, some editoirals she is the one who actually wrote the whole thing.

More coming later...

The K-Train

I've decided to start calling my son Kallsen the K-Train. I was given the nickname, the A-Train, several years ago and have decided to pass on to my son the same type of nickname. I'm not sure my wife cares for it but she hasn't said anything yet.

Been hard to remember....

I don't know if it is because i'm getting older, that fact that I have children now or I just don't care as much as I used to, but it is hard to remember to post.

If I was doing this when I was a newsman, I'm sure I would have had something to write about everyday. Covering news tends to keep you involved with what is going on. A newsman, be for a newspaper or a radio station, is the most informed person in the community. A station GM is probable the least informed. That's why I sometimes play the part of the fool on my weekly talk show.

I will try to post more frequently and talk more about what is going on. Afterall, something happens everyday...and would probable be interesting if I choose to make it so.
